It is unclear as to why the car was going in the wrong direction, but reports indicate witnesess saying that the driver was travelling in speeds of up to 90 mph.  The tractor-trailer was transporting contaminated dirt.  Once the crash occurred, the dirt covered the freeway virtually causing a stand-still.
